About The Momentum Project, Inc.

The Mission Of The Momentum Aids Project Is To Sustain Health And Foster Hope By Providing Communal Meals And Supportive Services In A Caring Environment To Any Person (Male, Female, Straight, Gay, Lesbian Bisexual Or Transgender) With Hiv Infection, Their Family Members, And Loved Ones In New York City. No Other Food/Counseling Agency In Manhattan Has The History Of Flexibility And Responsiveness To The Changing Hiv/Aids Epidemic As Does Momentum: The First Agency To Serve Those With Hiv Without A Diagnosis Of Full-Blown Aids; The First In The U.S. To Provide Nutrition Counseling, Including Use Of The Bio-Medical Impedance Analyzer (Bia); The First To Combine On-Site Individual Counseling With A Congregate Meal Program; One Of The First To Address Issues Of Women And Family; The First And Only Program To Provide Food And Counseling 7 Days A Week; The First To Develop And Establish A Treatment Adherence And Education Program Specifically For Latinos; And The First To Establish An Aids Food And Service Program In The Bronx?14 Years Ago. As The Epidemic Has Changed, We Have Incorporated An In-Depth Counseling Component That Is Supported By Professional Nutritionists, Nurses, Social Workers, Mental Health Workers, Harm Reduction Counselors, Housing And Entitlement Advocates, Chaplains, And Family And Women?S Specialists. As A Result, Momentum Is Recognized Nationally As The Model Food And Support Agency Serving Those Individuals, Families, And Communities Where Infection And Health Risks Are Greatest--The Poor, The Disenfranchised, And Communities Of Color. This Year We Received A Grant From The U.S. Department Of Health And Human Services To Provide A Technical Assistance Manual For Organizations Planning To Implement Meal Programs, Pantry Bags And/Or Supportive Services For Hiv/Aids Populations.
