Mfy's Mission Is That No Poor New Yorker Should Be Denied Equal Access To The Legal System Because He/She Cannot Afford Representation. We Believe That The Needs Of The Poor And The Working Poor Are No Less Serious Than Those Of People Who Can Afford To Hire Attorneys. In Fact, They Are Often More Serious. Our Free, Civil Legal Services Have Traditionally Been Focused In The High Need Communities Of Chinatown, Lower East Side, Manhattan Valley, East Harlem And Clinton In Manhattan. Additionally, Mfy's Innovation Mental Health Law Project, Adult Home Project And Workplace Justice Project Serve The Five Boroughs. Our Representation Is Multi-Lingual And Culturally Sensitive. Most Of Our Clients Have Incomes Under 125% Of The Poverty Level ($20,563 For A Family Of Four). The Majority Of Our Clients Are People Of Color: 26% Hispanic, 13% Black, 5% Asian, 1% Native American. 17% Are Caucasian Non-Hispanic, And 38% Are Not Self-Identified. The Age Group Of Our Client Population Ranges From Infancy To The Elderly. Approximately Two-Thirds Of All Of Our Clients Are Women; 17% Are Elderly.
