Chf's Mission, Shared By Its International Affiliates, Began In 1969 In New York City With A Vision That Kids Should Not Be Alone And On The Streets. Formalized In 1972, Covenant House Developed Its Cornerstone "Open Intake"--24-Hour Acceptance Of Any Youth Seeking Initial Help. Covenant House Developed 5 Guiding Principles: Immediacy--Meeting Basic Needs First; Sanctuary--Safety From The Street; Value Communications--Teaching Positive Qualities; Structure--Stable Environment; And Choice--Opportunities For Self-Determination. Chf Began Services In 1985 In Response To Strong Community Support For Services For Disconnected Kids Who Had Nowhere To Go For Help.
