About Peoples Self-Help Housing Corp.

Concerned With The Lack Of Housing Opportunities Available To Persons With Limited Incomes, A Small Group Of Central Coast Residents Began Meeting Informally In The Late 1960's. Learning Of A Federally Sponsored Program Available To Non-Profit Sponsors To Finance The Construction Of Owner Built Low-Income Housing, The Group Incorporated Pshhc In 1970 As A Non-Profit Public Purpose Organization, Optioned Land With $2,000 In Interest-Free Loans From A Local Church And Submitted A Successful Application To Farmers Home Administration For A Grant To Operate A Self-Help Housing Program. Since That Time Over 1000 Homes And More Than 1200 Rental Units Have Been Built.
