About Building Opportunities For Self-Sufficiency

Boss's Mission Is To Help Poor, Homeless, And Disabled People Achieve Health And Self-Sufficiency, And To Fight Against The Root Causes Of Poverty And Homelessness. Boss Achieves Its Mission Using Four Strategies: Housing, Health, Economic Development, And Social Justice. Boss Was Founded In 1971 By Volunteers Who Came Together To Respond To The Needs Of The Homeless Mentally Ill Who Had Been Released To The Streets Following State Hospital Closures. The Hillel Streetwork Project, As It Was Then Called, Provided Street Outreach, Crisis Counseling, Benefits Advocacy, And Other Support. Over The Years The Agency Continued To Respond To Evolving Needs, Adding New Programs To Serve Families, Youth, Seniors, Veterans, People With Drug/Alcohol Problems, People With Hiv/Aids, Survivors Of Domestic Violence, And Working People. Today Building Opportunities For Self-Sufficiency, As It Is Now Called, Is A Recognized Leader In The Field Of Fighting Homelessness And Poverty.
