About Center For Multicultural Human Services

Cmhs Began In 1982 As A Foster Care Program For Orphaned Refugee Children. As The Demand For Therapeutic And Social Services For Language Minority Residents Grew Dramatically By The Late 1980?S, Cmhs Developed A Wide Range Of Services In 30+ Languages And Now Serves More Than 8,000 Individuals And Families Annually. On July 1, 1995, Cmhs Was Licensed By The Virginia Department Of Mental Health, Mental Retardation And Substance Abuse Services As An Outpatient Mental Health Center And As A Provider Of Substance Abuse And Home-Based Services. Cmhs Is An Organization That Aspires To Help People From Ethnically Diverse Backgrounds Succeed By Providing Comprehensive, Culturally Sensitive Mental Health Services And By Conducting Research And Training To Make Such Services More Widely Available. Immigrants And Refugees Comprise A Significant Percent Of The Population Of This Country, And For That Reason We Strive To Increase Understanding And Harmony Among All Ethnic, Cultural And Language Groups As The U.S. Becomes An Increasingly Multicultural Society.
