About Pratt Area Community Council, Inc.

Pacc Strives To Develop Vibrant, Economically Diverse Communities In Central Brooklyn, New York, Where All Can Afford To Stay. To That End, Pacc Utilizes Two Main Strategies: Developing And Managing Affordable Housing While Providing Programming That Facilitates Homeownership And Habitable Housing For Tenants, And Developing And Strengthening Viable Businesses That Provide Needed Products And Services To Area Residents. Founded In 1964 By A Group Of Area Residents, Pacc Began As An Association Of Block Associations That Worked To Increase Services Such As Libraries And Traffic Signals In Fort Greene. However, By 1980, Housing Abandonment Had Become An Epidemic In Central Brooklyn. In Response, Pacc Established A Full-Time, Professionally Staffed Office And Concentrated Its Services On Sponsoring And Preserving Affordable Buildings, Helping Community Residents Become First-Time Homeowners, Keeping Residents In Their Homes, And Protecting Tenant Rights. After Years Of Sponsoring The Development Of Affordable Housing, Pacc Acquired And Renovated Its First Building In 1988. Understanding The Connection Between A Vigorous, Job-Producing Economy And Neighborhood Vitality, In 1997, Pacc Established An Economic Development Program To Foster The Proliferation And Stabilization Of Local Businesses. In 2002, Pacc Further Responded To The Area Need For Housing And Services By Opening The Gibb Mansion, A Service-Enriched Housing Facility That Serves Low-Income People And Formerly Homeless People Who Are Living With Hiv Or Aids.
