Good afternoon, I work with Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, and we received an email from a constituent regarding a threat of eviction from a landlord. I was wondering whether I could speak to someone, or someone could speak directly to Michael, our constituent, regarding any rights that he has after the Governor's eviction moratorium ends. Best, Jessie From Michael: I rent an apartment in Boerum Hill, and my lease is up at the end of May. My landlords are pressuring me to sign another one-year lease immediately, and given the extreme financial uncertainties of the moment, I’m unable to make this commitment given the strong possibility that I might not have a job in a year and therefore would be unable to afford this rent and meet this contractual obligation. I’ve tried to ask for a shorter lease (six months or nine months), but so far they’ve said “my way or the highway” and that if I don’t sign by April 27, I could lose my apartment to another renter and will have to vacate in May.
